Where’s the North Pole ?

The spot map makers indicate as the North Pole (Geographic, or True North – TN) is actually situated about 800 miles north of the pole (Magnetic North-MN) that attracts compass needles.

As a result there can be a difference between the direction your compass arrow shows as North, and the North indicated on your map. This difference is called magnetic declination. The amount of declination varies from place, so when using a compass with a map, the compass reading must be slightly adjusted.
